Costs of oil systems are out of reach, says guesthouse owner

The owner of a West Sussex guesthouse was left shocked by the cost of installing an underground oil tank.

The oil system – which had started leaking after 10 years’ service – would have cost around £10,000 to replace.

The owner started researching some options; she was keen to ensure her fuel choice would mean lower bills and a fuel that was not an easy target for thieves.

The guesthouse – which had been converted from a Victorian mansion – was soon the proud owner of a four tonne LPG underground tank, a process which took just three days to complete.

Improved reliability with less servicing is another key advantage of the new system.

The owner said: ‘Before the changes we were constantly having trouble with the oil burner – the boiler kept going out and we had problems getting it to fire up. Plus it was dirty and had to be serviced twice a year. The new burner has run like a dream since it was installed and only requires servicing once a year. We’ve never had a problem since switching to LPG!’ She concluded: ’We were so pleased with the service provided that we’ve had more LPG tanks installed underground, with three individual meters to serve three refurbished cottages next to main guesthouse.

‘LPG is so clean, it is safely out of sight and the cost of an underground LPG tank is far less than the oil equivalent– the installers even re-landscaped the area and removed the old oil tanks!’
