The leading country house hotel on the pathway to Net Zero with LPG
Kilworth House, a luxury country house hotel and outdoor theatre venue in Leicestershire, has been using LPG to provide heat for cooking and gas fires for the past 20 years.
With a strong environmental policy, Kilworth House aims to run as efficiently as possible. Instead of using traditional carbon-heavy fuels like oil, it uses LPG to provide reliable cooking gas for its kitchen and gas fires in the hotel lounges.
In 2007, a separate LPG supply was installed for the log cabin and provides all heating, hot water and cooking gas for the popular function venue.
Kilworth House is grade II listed and combines traditional period features with modern facilities for business and leisure guests. There are 44 bedrooms in total, two well-regarded restaurants, private dining rooms and meeting rooms, the log cabin function venue and a 550 seat outdoor theatre.
Commenting on Kilworth House Hotel, Elizabeth Payne, General Manager said:
“We love our rural location and it’s a big part of the charm of Kilworth House hotel, but it does mean we’re not connected to the mains gas grid. It’s thanks to LPG we can have a dependable off-grid gas supply for our open fires and real controllable cooking flames for our twelve busy chefs.”
Elizabeth continued:
“Reliability is key when running a hotel business and our restaurants are a particular draw for guests. In fact, we often cater for up to 500 people in a day, so it’s vital we always have the gas we need to keep our kitchen running and our guests happy.
Our tanks come with auto-ordering technology, which works incredibly well for us. It means we don’t ever have to remember to order our gas, and our supplier automatically sorts refills when we’re running low. That’s the kind of peace of mind you want when you’re running a busy venue like this.”
The LPG supplier working with Kilworth House managed the design and installation of both LPG systems and provided a full turnkey solution. The company fitted two 4,600 litre tanks discreetly underground for the main hotel which are located just off the main driveway to make it easy for regular LPG deliveries. For The Staging Post log cabin venue, they installed an above ground tank, which sits neatly next to the venue.
LPG continues to be an excellent solution for Kilworth House. It meets the hotels’ energy needs, carries a low carbon content, is reliable, and most importantly it’s highly efficient which is of huge importance for a busy hotel, function venue and restaurant. It is one of the cleanest, most efficient off grid fuels available and plays an important role in helping businesses on the road to net zero emissions and the transition over to bioLPG.
BioLPG is a chemically identical, renewable alternative to LPG which offers a drop in solution for existing customers requiring no retrofitting or installation work.
