The UKLPG Annual Conference was held at the Hyatt Regency in Birmingham on Thursday 25th May. UKLPG was delighted to see even more members at the conference than in previous years and feedback from delegates declared that the programme was enjoyable, inspiring and of real value to their businesses.
Members were welcomed with refreshments and a chance to network with other colleagues and stakeholders in the LPG industry. The conference was opened by UKLPG Chair George Webb from Countrywide who welcomed delegates to the conference and introduced the first speaker, Phil Proctor from the Energy Systems Catapult who spoke to delegates about the UK energy system transition. Emily Wilson-Gavin from UKLPG illustrated government policy pathways and the opportunities ahead, followed by Lucy Cook from UKLPG who gave a presentation highlighting the successes of the digital PR campaign.
After the coffee break, Charles Byrne, Chair of the Pressure Equipment Consultation Forum presented on the implementation of the PED regulation and what it means for UK stakeholders. Margherita Boemo, who joined us from Sprint Gas Australia, followed on giving delegates an enlightening perspective of the Australian autogas market. The last presentation before lunch was given by Howard Porter, Chair of the Each Home Counts Implementation Board, who spoke about the opportunities ahead for the LPG sector.
After a networking lunch, our Keynote Speaker, Selvin Brown from the HSE opened the afternoon session with a riveting presentation on health & safety issues in the workplace and how the LPG sector and the HSE can work together to "help Great Britain work well". He was followed by Fiona Jackson, from Women in Nuclear, who discussed why it is imperative for business to address the gender diversity in the workplace. Hugh Carmichael from INEOS gave a fascinating presentation on the logistics involved in importing ethane from the US into Europe.
The last session of the day was kicked off by John Facenfield from UtilitiesADR who explained the benefits of an industry-wide Ombudsman scheme. Rob Shuttleworth. The final presentation was given by Andre Picart from Superdream who gave an imaginative presentation asking how to sell a product in a digital age, leaving delegates inspired and excited about future possibilities.
George Webb wrapped up the conference by thanking all the speakers and sponsors, and announced that the 2018 UKLPG conference will be held in Leeds on 3rd May. We sincerely hope that all delegates enjoyed the conference and found it worthwhile. We look forward to seeing you in Leeds!
