LPG friendly Clean Air Zones get the go ahead

The CAZs, which are slightly different, go live in Bath on the 15th March 2021 and in Birmingham on the 1st June 2021. Both CAZs will allow LPG retrofitted vehicles to use the zones without facing a penalty, reflecting the low carbon and clean burning solution that LPG brings to city centres across the four UK nations.

LPG is supported under the Clean Vehicle Retrofit Accreditation Scheme and is being used today to help reduce emissions from some of the most polluting vehicles on our roads, as well as improve toxic levels of air quality.

By using LPG you can help to reduce pollution immediately, as one LPG vehicle emits only 5% of the NOx that a diesel vehicle emits, and Particulate Matter (PM) emissions from LPG vehicles on an urban cycle are so low that they are below reliably measurable levels.

Converting our most polluting vehicles on to clean, low-carbon solutions only works however if policy incentives (or regulations) are there. For example, asides from CAZs, local authorities can look at options such as changing licencing criteria, encouraging not just black cabs but the private hire fleet to move to cleaner solutions too.
