4 ways to stay warm and safe this winter

Wednesday 24th November 2021

As the weather gets colder, and homes need to be kept warmer, we will all be using boilers and heating appliances more regularly.

Liquid Gas UK always recommends appliances are serviced by a qualified heat engineer but in addition to this there are other precautions you can take to stay safe and healthy this winter. Installing a BS EN Compliant Carbon Monoxide Alarm is an easy safety measure you can take and will cost around £15.00.

In addition to having appliances serviced regularly by a qualified heat engieer, and installing a carbon monoxide alarm, there are some other simple steps you can take to stay safe this winter:

Do:

  •  Use your extraction fan when cooking, if you don’t have an extraction fan opening a window will provide ventilation to the room
  •  Look out for a crisp blue flame rather than a floppy yellow flame on gas hobs
  •  Save the Gas Emergency Service Number on your phone: 0800 111 999
  •  Ensure you register your appliances for the latest product safety updates.

Don’t:

  • Don't cook over multiple rings on your gas hob or stove
  • Don't block flues or ventilation bricks and passages, these help to maintain good air quality
