Important updates to Code of Practice 2

Today Liquid Gas UK, the UK’s authoritative body on LPG safety, is pleased to announce the release of the newly updated Code of Practice 2: Safe Handling and Transport of LPG in Road Tankers and Tank Containers by Road. This key guidance has been comprehensively revised to reflect the latest safety standards and legislative requirements, providing essential information for the safe and compliant transportation of LPG across the UK.

This update includes three important revisions -

  1. New regulatory changes so that operators can take steps to comply with ADR2023. (The biggest change to ADR for the LPG industry is the introduction of the ‘Safety Valve’ mark that is required to be fitted to all LPG tankers that have a Pressure Relief Valve fitted.)
  1. All data contained in the Code has been corrected where necessary and revalidated.
  2. Incorporates regulatory changes following our withdrawal from the EU.

For over 45 years, Liquid Gas UK has set the standard for LPG safety through its Codes of Practice, which are closely aligned with Government guidelines to ensure compliance and industry suitability. These Codes provide foundational engineering and safety practices for a wide range of sectors, from street food and commercial catering to the caravan industry, fuel stations, and LPG road tanker operations.

Code of Practice 2 has been specifically developed to guide those involved in the road transport of LPG in bulk. The revised Code addresses critical areas, including vehicle and tank design, routine maintenance, operational requirements, and vehicle markings.

Key Sections of Code of Practice 2:

  • Section 1: Introduction, Scope and References
  • Section 2: Vehicle Design
