Flogas Britain supports first UK housing development with switch to 100% BioLPG blend

Monday 22nd December 2025

Flogas Britain has announced that Seaward Park, a metered estate in Exeter, has become the first UK off-grid housing development to transition to a 100% BioLPG blend. This marks a significant step toward reducing carbon emissions in the off-grid home energy market.

BioLPG, a byproduct of hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO) production and waste-derived feedstocks, offers a carbon footprint up to 80% lower than conventional LPG. The switch, which came into effect on 5 December 2025, ensures that all gas usage at Seaward Park is now supplied through BioLPG across the wider network. The process uses a mass-balancing approach, as BioLPG and conventional LPG are chemically identical, eliminating the need for separate transport fleets and additional carbon emissions.

The BioLPG supplied is independently verified under the International Sustainability & Carbon Certification (ISCC) system, ensuring full traceability and accountability. Residents can monitor their individual usage and see how they contribute to the adoption of renewable energy.

Importantly, BioLPG is a ‘drop-in’ fuel, meaning no upgrades were required to the existing infrastructure at Seaward Park.

Ivan Trevor, Managing Director of Flogas Britain and Chair of Liquid Gas UK, commented: “The UK’s first metered housing development powered by a 100% BioLPG blend is a major milestone for cleaner energy in off-grid communities. While electrification suits some customers, BioLPG provides a practical, accessible route to lower carbon emissions without costly system upgrades.”

Andrew McCann, Head of Consumer Sales at Flogas Britain, added: “BioLPG offers a seamless transition for homeowners. It blends with regular LPG and travels through the same supply chain, while independent auditing ensures accurate allocation. For residents, the fuel looks the same but delivers a lower carbon footprint—real, verified progress toward a renewable future.”

With government currently reviewing the role of alternative clean heating solutions, the Seaward Park project demonstrates the viability and benefits of BioLPG for consumers. Flogas plans to extend BioLPG availability to more domestic and commercial customers from January 2026.
