Islands Energy Group has unveiled their first renewable fuel solution, BioLPG gas, for a number of Jersey and Guernsey businesses.
Bean 14, Les Bourgs Hospice, the 8th Guernsey Sea Scouts, The Jersey Airport Fire Service and Jersey Dairy, will receive this innovative energy solution to kickstart their green energy journey.
Unlike traditional propane, BioLPG is a pioneering alternative produced from renewable feedstocks such as organic vegetable waste materials. This affordable, convenient and non-intrusive ‘drop-in’ solution helps businesses decarbonise without the need for costly infrastructure upgrades or changes to existing appliances, supporting the island’s journey toward a greener future.
This trial aligns with the strategic direction set by Islands Energy Group (IEG). In 2022, IEG committed to accelerating the islands it serves towards a shared Net Zero future by 2050. The strategy includes reducing its carbon footprint and decarbonising the gas transported through its networks.
Darryl Goddard, Managing Director of Guernsey Energy and Island Energy, said: “We’re excited to launch this trial today with three local businesses, and be able to offer BioLPG to them as a tangible step towards a more sustainable Guernsey.
“This renewable gas makes it so easy for people to choose a more sustainable energy option, without having to upgrade their businesses or homes. We’re looking forward to seeing the positive impact this will have on our environment.”
Rob Jones, CEO at Les Bourgs Hospice commented: “We’re delighted to receive this new energy solution from Guernsey Energy. Transitioning to cleaner gas supports our commitment to sustainability, and reflects Guernsey’s pledge to reaching net-zero emissions by 2050.”
Sophie Alexander, Head of Sustainability & Community Value at Ports of Jersey remarked: “We are proud to be part of the trial for the new BioLPG at our Airport Rescue and Fire Fighting Service training ground. We are making great progress towards our target to be net zero in our operations at the airport by 2030, and this is another step that will help us to get there.”
This trial marks a significant milestone in Islands Energy Group’s mission to create a cleaner, greener energy future for the island.
