COP 32: LPG systems in Leisure Accommodation Vehicles & Road Vehicles with Habitation – Post Delivery Inspection, Commissioning & Maintenance specifically designed to support the safe installation of LPG in caravans and motor homes.

Working closely with UK policy makers and industry, Liquid Gas UK has updated its comprehensive guidance detailing the best way to install, and maintain LPG for leisure accommodation vehicles such as caravans and motorhomes.

Commenting on Code of Practice 32, Richard Hakeem, Director of Safety and Technical Policy at Liquid Gas UK, Said:

“Code of Practice 32 is specifically for the leisure industry and we’ve worked closely with the caravan industry to ensure it meets all of their safety objectives, and is specific to their industry. Code of Practice 32 is the definitive guide for Installation and Maintenance of LPG in caravans and motor homes, and will without doubt improve safety standards for vehicles operating in the leisure space.”

It provides clear guidance on maintaining appliances such as those required for heating and cooking, as well as the installation of pipework in a safe manner.

It also includes standardised procedures for checking the safety of gas installation, and incorporates checks on appliances, the gas tightness of the system, the ventilation and flueing.

Code of Practice 32 specifies the requirements for the post-delivery commissioning, inspection & testing of LPG installations not included in the scope of either BS 6891 or BS EN 1949, where connection to external gas supply is provided and/or installation requires on-site commissioning.

Guidance is included on maintaining appliances and the installation pipework in a safe condition. It includes details of a standardised procedure and check report which should be followed by a competent person to check the safety of the gas installation. This includes checks on the appliances, the gas tightness of the system, ventilation and flueing.

Code of Practice 32 covers:

  • Holiday Caravans
  • Touring caravans and Trailer tents which are connected to an external LPG supply not incorporated in the original manufacturer’s design
  • Touring caravans that are used for more than 4 weeks whilst connected to external cylinder supply
  • Other vehicles with or without aftermarket conversion incorporating accommodation for habitation.
