May 2020 review by George Webb, Chief Executive

Wednesday 17th June 2020

As the warmest May on record comes to an end, lockdown criteria is eased and a number of us begin to try and return to a certain level of normality, the light at the end of the tunnel is certainly shining a lot brighter than it was a couple of weeks ago.

That being said, we are still working on a number of unresolved issues from Covid-19. At the top of the list is MOTs and ADR training, members have raised concerns that if these backlogs are not cleared we could have vehicles and drivers off the road during winter. We are working closely with BEIS and DfT towards a sensible resolution, given winter is our most critical time of the year.

Covid-19 has however been taking up much less of the Liquid Gas UK’s time in recent weeks. We’ve been able to get back to campaigning parliamentarians, albeit virtually, and have seen a success with on EPCs. We’ve also gained significant media coverage from our EPC campaign, including influential media outlets such as the Scottish Herald, Business Green, Installer Magazine and Utility Week. We’re making some real traction.

Underpinning our lobbying and member engagement this year, will be the Industry Census 2020. I’d like to take the opportunity to say thank you to our members who supported us by filling it in at the start of May. We’re currently analysing the results and will be launching the census results over the coming weeks. I won’t say anymore now – but watch this space!

On the topic of launches, we were all disappointed that this year’s annual conference had to be cancelled, but I’m happy to say that 2021’s conference venue and date has now been agreed. But before then, in September, we will be hosting an exclusive webinar for Liquid Gas UK members, which will include updates from the team and also guest speakers. We’ve developed it with you in mind, covering UK, Devolved and Global issues, with a whole supply chain perspective - so I hope you’ll join us.

Stay safe and see you soon.

Regards,George
