Melissa Chisell is Junior Technical Engineer at Avanti Gas and last year won the accolade of Apprentice of the Year, as part of the Young Person in LPG Awards sponsored by Vaillant.
Melissa has been working at Avanti Gas for the past four and half years and kindly agreed to speak to Liquid Gas UK about winning the award last year, and the benefits it has had on her career and apprenticeship training.
Melissa Chisell, Avanti Gas
Winning Apprentice of the Year has been an extremely rewarding experience for me. Being recognised both internally within your business and externally amongst the wider LPG industry provides a big morale boost. It’s always lovely to hear you’re doing a good job and people are grateful for the work you’re doing.
The award has also provided me with clear evidence of my projects and achievements which is excellent for my apprenticeship and the various milestones, and assessments I have to work towards. It’s great to be able to give examples of the recognition and praise you have received while undergoing your apprenticeship.
Apprentice of the Year
Winning Apprentice of the Year has been brilliant for raising awareness of my role within the business and within the wider LPG industry. It was a real honour to be up on stage last year amongst such an influential group of representatives from the industry.
I’d recommend any young people working in the LPG industry to apply for one of the categories at the Young Person in LPG awards. There are three categories in total and you can either apply on behalf of yourself or another person in your team. I can personally say just how rewarding it is to hear that somebody you work for has nominated you for these awards. It makes all the hard work worth it and it’s always lovely to hear that you’re appreciated, and your efforts are being recognised.
Young Person in LPG 2022
The benefits of Young Person in LPG cover many business objectives; the mentors who have provided support, the businesses who have taken on new apprentices and provided them with an important stepping stone into their future career, and of course the apprentices and graduates themselves who work hard to do a good job and establish their role within their company.
Young Person in LPG is an excellent initiative and I wouldn’t hesitate in recommending it to others’ who are thinking of entering this year. I’m looking forward to hearing who the finalists are!
