November 10th 2022 - the day had finally arrived! By the end of the day, we would be awarding 3 awards to some well-deserved young people in the industry!
Listening to the innovations within the LPG industry to tackle our net zero target in the UK at the Liquid Gas UK annual conference was fantastic to hear and see. The progress that has already been made around the world to reduce carbon emissions in LPG is something to really celebrate. Young people all across the industry will play a huge part in making this happen.
The first award went to Lizzie German for Outstanding Achievement. Lizzie has only been in the industry for 2 years but was chosen due to the vast amount of contribution that she has made towards rDME LPG development – shaping and advancing the industry to a greener and sustainable future. Well done, Lizzie, I am sure I can speak for everyone when I say that we thank you for the contributions made, and what will be made in the future.
The second award was for the Apprentice of the Year; Connor McLean is 2022’s winner! Coming into the industry as a cylinder filling plant operative, he was noticed for his drive and enthusiasm when completing tasks. After being given opportunities to progress his career, he was given the opportunity to become an LPG engineer apprentice. He will become fully trained and signed off as a competent LPG engineer in the coming months – receiving excellent feedback from his peers, customers and assessors. He will be a true asset to the industry.
Finally I presented the Rising Star award – this person has passed all regulation courses that has been given to him and going above and beyond expectations showing a can-do philosophy. Coming into the industry as an apprentice, he has shown eagerness to learn and develop, which has allowed him to progress to work on 2 large scale projects as the lead engineer – Max Bennett is a well-deserved Rising Star winner who I am sure will go onto to succeed even further.
The evening event was spectacular, with everyone engaged in conversation about the future and our 2022 winners. I would like to thank Liquid Gas UK for the invitation to the event – and I would also like to formally announce that Vaillant will again be sponsoring the awards for the 3rd year in a row. So, I look forward to 2023, and more opportunities to celebrate the successes in the industry and the young people who make it happen.
