International Women's Day 2024 - Outstanding Achievement Award Winner: Lizzie German, Dimeta

1. Can you tell us a little bit about yourself and your role?

I joined Dimeta two years ago as Investment and Technology Manager, part of the business development team. In this role, I manage partnerships between Dimeta and renewable & recycled carbon DME production plant developers. This includes managing the project schedule, business cases, and commercial developments.

Additionally, I oversee the sustainability aspects of our operations, including sustainability assessments and compliance with relevant regulations. I am responsible for ensuring that the projects we pursue align with our sustainability goals and requirements.

2. What attracted you to come and work in the LPG industry?

I was attracted to working in the LPG industry because of its crucial role in providing clean and reliable energy to millions of people worldwide, especially in rural communities. As the industry continues to evolve, it's exciting that there is a growing focus on innovation and developing renewable fuels. Being a part of this transition towards a more sustainable future motivates me to work in the LPG industry. 

3.What do you love most about your job? 

One of the aspects I love most about my job is the opportunity to collaborate with innovative companies and organisations which are making a real difference in enabling the transition away from fossil fuels towards a sustainable energy system. Working with people with the passion, energy and creativity to implement the changes that will be required in the move towards sustainability is inspiring.

4. What is the most important piece of advice you have been given? What advice would you give to any young person looking to start a career in the LPG industry?

I think it's important to follow your passion and pursue what you find genuinely interesting. Having a vision of what you want to achieve can provide a sense of direction and purpose in your career, whilst at the same time embracing opportunities to learn, grow, and explore new avenues is also important.

5. What did winning a Young Person in LPG award mean to you?

I was honoured to win the Young Person in LPG Outstanding Achievement Award from Liquid Gas UK and be recognized among such talented individuals in the industry. This recognition meant a lot to me and symbolized the industry's commitment to supporting young professionals. By acknowledging and supporting emerging talents, the industry paves the way for their continued growth and success within the LPG sector. 

6. Why should people apply or nominate a young person for the Young Person in LPG awards?

By applying or nominating a young person, we honour their achievements and empower them to continue striving for excellence and making a positive impact in the LPG industry. These awards provide a platform for young professionals to be recognized, supported, and encouraged and an opportunity for the industry to embrace fresh perspectives and innovative ideas.

7. What do you hope to achieve in the future?

To continue contributing to the transition towards a sustainable energy system. As part of this journey, I hope to continue to be involved in innovative projects and initiatives to develop and commercialise new technologies for the production of renewable fuels.

The "Inspire Inclusion" theme for International Women's Day is a powerful reminder of the importance of fostering diversity and inclusivity in all industries. It means actively promoting an environment where people from diverse backgrounds and perspectives feel welcomed, respected, and empowered to contribute their unique talents. By embracing inclusion, we create a space for collaboration and innovation where different perspectives and ideas can converge to achieve remarkable outcomes.
