Four in a Bed

If you’ve ever stumbled across the Channel 4 daytimeTV programme Four in a Bed you’ll have seen hotel owners throwing open their doors to their harshest critics. Dust on top of the wardrobes? Underwhelming eggs? Tired décor? There really is no hiding place!

It may be because a hotel’s fuel supply is not a glamorous topic and for those daytime viewers it wouldn’t exactly make for edge-of-the-seat viewing. But it’s a critical element to ensuring a tip top service and one that a Newport hotel and pub knows only too well.

Housing 15 luxury rooms, a restaurant-bar and stunning wedding facilities,this hotel was bought as a public house in 2004 by its owners and has since been converted and developed to now include beautiful gardens and an orangery to host weddings.

Its owner said:‘Since buying our business we have always been off mains gas. We have moved suppliers four times due to the level of customer service and prices the suppliers could offer. We wanted a supplier where we have one contact that we can speak to and see if needed, a personal service rather than an automated process. And this is what we have achieved!

‘We started talks with our LPG supplier in March 2013,before switching four months later. We moved with a fixed 12-month rate and continue to renew at the same price which we are hugely impressed with. The price is so good and it means we know exactly how much we’re spending month-on-month for our gas supply.

‘We use LPG primarily for the pub. We added the 15 rooms seven years ago and at the time we weren’t allowed to heat the rooms with gas. The LPG is used to heat the water for the hotel and we depend on it to provide cooking and heating for the pub.

‘We remain very happy with the service we receive from our supplier.When we switched they spent time getting used to our pattern of supply and it has been a seamless process ever since. They are used to the way our business runs and are flexible to our needs,whether we need more gas depending on the time of year and how busy we are.

‘To keep us topped up,our supplier comes every seven to 10 days to refill our tanks and ensure we never run out – which we haven’t!
