Love at first taste

The owner of this restaurant felt that the current system did not supply his properties with the amount of hot water he required and was searching for a more cost effective, efficient and flexible solution to meet his energy needs. LPG was his solution

Folklore would lead us to believe that Italian’s are the best lovers.

We are always open for discussion on this matter but, like one Italian restaurant owner in County Offaly, Ireland, Carluccio rather than Casanova occupied his daily thoughts.

Running a family owned Italian restaurant and takeaway is no mean feat in today’s competitive market so ensuring that overheads are kept low is critical for longevity and success.

Although both the restaurant and takeaway were already using LPG for cooking, oil was the principal fuel used in both premises for central heating and hot water.  In essence, this meant that water had to be pre-heated before use, stored and then reheated, leading to elevated costs for hot water storage.

The owner felt that the system did not supply his properties with the amount of hot water he required on a daily basis and, in short, was searching for a more cost-effective, efficient and flexible solution to meet his energy needs.

He soon realised that incorporating LPG into the restaurant – not only for cooking but also for central heating and hot water – was a more tailored, financially viable solution to his energy needs.  He would be able to reduce his fuel bills from three to two; LPG for central heating, hot water and cooking and electricity for lighting and heating the pizza ovens.

As there was an existing LPG bulk tank on both sites, the conversion from oil to LPG was very straightforward, with no disruption to daily activities.  The existing oil burner was replaced with a new Vokera LPG boiler which was then connected to the LPG tank.  Lastly, a new Andrews FASTflo water heater was installed - supplying 196 litres of hot water on demand at 800ºC in just seven minutes, with variable temperatures of between 370ºC and 800ºC – with no running or storage costs.

The restaurant owner said: ‘I am absolutely delighted with the results; increased efficiency, lower costs and complete peace of mind!  The new system is working so well, I am also considering changing my pizza ovens from electricity to LPG in the near future.’

Bon appetito!
